Day 6

Daily Objective- "Students will be able to write an equation of a line given data points."

  • To find the equation of a line using data points, we must go back to day one, and look at the y2-y1 over x2-x1, equation. Say Mrs. Larson gives me the points (2,3) and (4,5). The first numbers (2 and 4) are always x, and the second numbers are y. Then you put 5-3 in for y, and 4-2 for x. You should get 2/2 which equals a slope of one. But we aren't finished yet. Now we need to insert a y for y so we'll use 5, and 4 for the x values. So now our equation looks like 5=1(4) +b. B=1. (1 x 4= 4. 4+1=5. )

Quiz

  1. What is the equation of a line with the points (3,4) and (6,9)?
  2. If the slope is 5, and the two points are (9,12) what is the rest of the equation?
  3. What is the slope if the points are (-45,6) and (34,8)?

Day 5

"Daily objective-Students will graph linear inequalities."

  • Linear inequalities are graphs that state whether the line is greater than or less than something.

Day 4

Day 4

Daily objective- "Students will define the y intercept in math as well as translate it to real world meaning."

  • The y intercept in math is part of a graph, where the line crosses the y axis. (The y axis is horizontal.)

Day 3

Day 3

Daily Objective- "Students will be able to find the number of outcomes for compound events, identify independent and conditional events, and compute probability and odds."

This shows probability, and how to find outcomes

  • Finding probability doesn't have to be as complicated as everyone makes it out to be. You have a spinner (Circular) cut into 4 pieces evenly. Each section equals 25% of the circle, so the probability of the spinner landing on each piece is 1/4.

Quiz

  1. John has 3 blue t-shirts, 3 green t-shirts, and 7 black t-shirts in his closet. What is the probability of John getting a blue shirt?
  2. If John rolls a number di, what is his chances of getting a 5?
  3. If John rolls a pair of dice, what is probability of him getting an even number?

Answer Key

  1. 3/11 or 27% of the time. (3+3+7=11. 3/11=.27)
  2. 1/6 or 17% of the time. (6 sided dice, 1/6=.1666666)
  3. 1/2 or 50% of the time. (6 sided dice x2=12 total sides.)

Unit 5-Day 2

Daily Objective- "Students will write the linear equation of a line using data from a line of best fit, or 2 given points."
  • Finding the equation of a line doesn't involve as much work as you'd think. You first must set the equation up in y=mx+b form. Then you begin by finding the slope. You find slope by setting (y2-y1) over (x2-x1). (X, then Y) After finding the slope of the line you insert a x value in for your x, and a y value for y. Say Y=2 and X=5. (Using y=mx+b) You insert your two values. 2=5x+b. B= -3. If you are solving an equation, such as y=2x+3,Simple enough... Right?

Quiz

  1. Josiah's plumbing company charges 96$ per hour, plus 10$ show up fee. Write an equation for Jo's plumbing company.
  2. There are two points on a graph, (12,3) (4,-5) What is the slope?
  3. 3=2(12)+b. What is B?

Answer Key
  1. y=96x+10. (96 per hour. hours=x. Plus a 10$ show up fee. y=96x+10)
  2. Slope=1. (3 - -5=8. 12-4=8. 8 over 8=1)
  3. -21 (2 times 12= 24. 24-21=3. 3=3)

Unit 5-Day 1

Daily Objective- "Students will use the line of best fit to find equations of lines."
  • Line of best fit is a representation of the graph, that shows how the graph runs.

The red line is an example of line of best fit
